The perfect family movie snack.
I learned this secret trick to popping the perfect popcorn years ago and it has never failed me.
No more burnt wasted kernels at the bottom of the pan!
Method to popping the perfect popcorn
Take one large lidded sauce pan. Add 2tbsp of oil (I use coconut or MCT oil), and place it on a gas hob – medium flame. Throw in 3-4 popcorn kernels as a test.
Whilst the pan it heating up, measure out 1/2 cup of corn kernels. Once the test kernels have popped (usually takes a minute or so), add in the rest of the kernels, give the pan a shake so they are evenly distributed on the bottom and place the lid on.
This is where it get’s interesting!
REMOVE the pan from the heat and count to 10 (around 8-10 seconds – kids love to count backwards).
Turn the flame down to LOW. Place the pan back on the hob, and wait for BLAST OFF!
This method allows the pan to cool just a touch, which minimises burning. Usually it means that all the kernels successfully pop and there are none wasted.
Deluxe Toppings
Maple butter – Simply melt 2tsp of butter (or coconut oil) with maple syrup and pour over
Peanut maple – our particular favourite – 2tsp peanut butter melted with maple syrup
Choco peanut – as it says on the tin – 4 squares dark chocolate melted with 1 tsp butter 1 tsp peanut butter 1 tsp maple. Decadent.
We sometimes sprinkle chopped nuts or desiccated coconut on to add more crunch.
And there you have it – a quick, easy, deliciously healthy treat!!!
